FOOTPATHS OF THE HOLY MOUNTAIN

FROM IVIRON TO STAVRONIKITA

Distance:  3.2 km       Journey Time:  1 hour

© The Friends of Mount Athos, 2008 -- v. 0.1

This is not a particularly easy path either to follow or walk.  It involves a certain amount of scrambling in the central part, and at times the path goes very close to the edge of a cliff.  Anyone likely to be bothered by either of these factors is advised to take the route along the road.  For those who do take the path, there are stretches of beach and cliff walking that offer attractive sea views.

Notes:  Be aware that, while the paths themselves do not move, over time it is possible for other details to change (e.g. signposts disappear or appear, new roads or tracks appear).  Distances (in metres) have been measured by GPS and thus are horizontal measurements, without allowance for ascents or descents.  They should be taken as an indication, rather than an exact measurement, of distance.

Abbreviations:        L = Left; R = Right; KSO = Keep straight on;
