Inaugural Metropolitan Kallistos Memorial Lecture: Archbishop Nikitas ‘Mount Athos: Tourism or Pilgrimage?’

London, 16 January 2025

The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom (St Sophia’s) was the fitting venue for the inaugural Metropolitan Kallistos Memorial Lecture. His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain addressed a packed audience and began with a loving and personal tribute to our beloved Metropolitan and made regular references to him throughout his lecture.

His Eminence delivered a powerful, multi-layered and nuanced lecture laced with poignant religious and secular references to underpin his vivid illustration of the enormous difference between tourism and pilgrimage.

Afterwards, His Eminence presided over the cutting of the Vasilopita.

A recording of the full lecture is available here: https://youtu.be/bzqF3LVGh4o
