FoMA Annual Vasilopitta Party

FoMA celebrates the holiday season annually with a Vasilopitta Party to which all members near and far are invited.

Vasilopitta Party – 17 January 2014

All members of the Friends of Mount Athos and their guests are invited to attend a Vasilopitta Party (a traditional Greek New Year celebration which involves the cutting of St Basil’s cake) from 6.00 to 8.00 pm on Friday 17 January 2014. This year’s party is being held at the Society of Antiquaries, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BE (next door to the Royal Academy in the courtyard of Burlington House).

In addition to the usual rituals, there will once again be two short musical interludes. Members of the Mosaic Choir, a Pan-Orthodox youth choir set up under the auspices of the Fellowship of St John the Baptist, will sing a selection of religious and secular songs, including Vasilopitta carols and other seasonal pieces, first at about 6:30pm and then again about an hour later.

Tickets cost £30.00 each (£20.00 for students) and are obtainable from Alasdair Cross, c/o Rawlinson & Hunter Ltd, Trafalgar Court, 3rd Floor, West Wing, St Peter Port, Guernsey GY1 2JA, who would also be pleased to hear from potential donors of wine and food. Please use the form below to make your application. Cheques (in sterling only please) should be made payable to The Friends of Mount Athos.

The Vasilopitta Party is one of the major social events, not only for the Friends of Mount Athos, but for all Orthodox organizations. We hope that this year’s party in its impressive surroundings will be supported by as many members as possible.
